You hear a lot of political radicals talking about a “revolution”. What is the first thing that comes to mind? Something like the Russian Revolution? Lots of factory workers with guns storming official buildings? It's understandable to have this image, it's not necessarily the image but it's understandable to have this image. Here's my definition of revolution: A revolution is a sudden change. Be it in the political arena (The Russian Revolution), in people's attitudes (The Sexual Revolution), or in something like technology (The Industrial Revolution), or even in new culture movements (The Pop Revolution). Revolutions build up, they don't just appear. To have a mass revolution, you must have a personal revolution. This can be a on a variety of different things. A personal revolution is where you either discover something new about yourself (internally), or you discover something new externally. If a man finds out he is in fact transgendered (wanting to become the opposite sex) that is an internal revolution because he had to find out about this within himself. If a man finds a new way of life or a new religion that suits him or a new idea, that is an external revolution because he found out about it from an external source. You may have had a revolution yourself. Think, was their any day that you we're a different person putting his/her head on the pillow than when you lifted your head off it? If not, what about from a week ago? A fortnight? A month? A year, perhaps? I have experienced a revolution. When I found I wanted to walk a pagan path,or when I found out I had an anarcho-libertarian leaning. It doesn't need to be political, you can simply find out you like folk music. A revolution can be big or small. Can you have your own revolution? Yes you can! You will ask questions, new opinions will form, some will be gradual, but at some point, one will be quick and radical and will change something. Revolution is good. Revolution will change the world, and it starts with you. |
